Everything happened unexpectedly. Somehow, the playwrights of Julius Dunch and Valery Frid appeared on Lenfilm. They brought the script to Peter, which nobody ordered them, and offered Maslennikov as director. Their creation was called "Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson" and was written on the basis of the stories Conan Doyle "Etude in the crimson tones" and "Pestrade Tape".
Prior to this important point of history about Sherlock Holmes, two hundred times were shielded, no less. But Always Watson, on whose behalf of Doyle and the story is conducted, remained a little behind the scenes. There were also two equal, well-prescribed characters. It was this fact that Igor Maslennikov inspired to take pictures. After all, be a pioneer is always fascinating.
Another reading scenario, the director knew: Sherlock Holmes should play Vasily Livanov. Prior to that, they worked together in the picture "Yaroslavna - Queen of France", there, Livanov played the role of the forever drunk knight Benedirtus.
