Opening borders: Who Europe is waiting after a pandemic

The EU Council approved the list of countries for which from July 1, restrictions on travel to the Union countries will be charged. So, since the beginning of the second month of summer, residents of 15 states will be able to enter European countries: Algeria, Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, Montenegro, Morocco, New Zealand, Rwanda, Serbia, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia and Uruguay, as well as China.

Russia and the United States did not enter the EU list to open borders from July 1, the TASS reported a diplomatic source in Brussels.

The decision on the opening of borders was based on several criteria, in particular, on the data on the epidemiological situation in countries and measures that the country adopts and combat the coronavirus infection.

According to the first criterion - the epidemiological situation - the list includes countries where the number of new cases of COVID-19 over the past two weeks per 100 thousand inhabitants was close or less than the average in the EU. Also in the country should be a trend to reduce the number of new infected patients.

"The list is not a legally binding document. The authorities of all EU member states remain responsible for the execution of these recommendations.
