Now everything was easy, and the director was able to quietly talk about his way into the profession, about the related links that he led him there. And also first told not only the sons, but also about the younger daughters of Masha and Ana.

- Alexey Efimovich, "Matilda" reached the big screen. Now the discussions must be more reasoned. But how did you endure everything that happened before the premiere?

- You know, the year was a strange and struggle for me, it is not clear with what is unexpected, because those who did not see the film did not protest. Then everything turned into an aggressive shape with arson, with a car embedded in a cinema in Yekaterinburg. Naturally, opinions should be different: neither universal praise, nor, on the contrary, the criticism of themselves do not carry values. Interesting discussion. In addition, we have some historical discrepancies made consciously, so I waited for a certain disagreement. And in general, I adequately perceive criticism, if it is in the case, and if there are just screams or critics with the director's complex, which often happens, is quite another. With the picture I have already traveled a number of cities, I was in Vladivostok, Yekaterinburg, several German cities. In Germany, by the way, the film was duplicated, it was widely and the Germans were very interested in what was the discovery for me. There was a show and in the small town of Darmstadt, where our last Empress come from, and the audience were incredibly active, they just fell asleep me with questions.

- Nothing. I see that people are very interesting for people. In Yekaterinburg, before my meeting, the audience was called with information that the cinema was mined. True, it was not connected with the film, because there were posts for several objects. All brought everyone to the street, then transferred to the Yeltsin Center. For two hours of expectations, a fifteen of four people left. The meeting was finally started, and we talked from halfwarded to the hour at night, and these were the most ordinary spectators, mostly young, which I was very pleased.

- You have a ballet topic just from childhood, with the very story when you drove into the Crimea with my mother ...

"Yes, we flew in Crimea with my mother, and a teacher of the Vaganovsky school was next to us. She said you should give me to them. But my dad protested, and did the right thing, although the ballet really attracts me all my life. At the very beginning of my creative way, I filmed a movie about the ballet. Once he invented an interesting frame, but did not understand how to put the camera so that she was right on stage. It was in the Mariinsky Theater. They gave, it seems "Sleeping Beauty". There is no ballet of the souflery booth, only on the opera. But I agreed, and we were filmed really with a great point. Suddenly my assistant moved his head, and ... Booth fell. I was not confused, put it back. Although rustling in the hall, of course, was. (Smiles.)

Dad shot a film about Ballerina Irina Alexandrovna Kolpaykov, I helped him and saw what she squeezed after every performance. I asked all the time: "Let the dressing room remove," and then it was not accepted at all. And she answered: "What are you, I am wet, dirty, leave!" As a result, I studied her dressing room, agreed with the theater, and my assistant Naum hid in a cabinet with a camera. The cameras then were big, but we are somehow settled. I screwed the light bulb over the table to become a little frown. There was a hole in the closet, we still covered yourself velvet. In general, they started the adventure. Kolpakova came, sat down to us in the cold and did not do anything about five minutes, just breathing and came to himself. We removed a very nice frame, and at that time the lamp burst, it was visible, I could not stand the cartridge, and the fragments fell right on her. A wild scandal happened, we were twisted, and she said, so that there was no more of my legs in the theater, I didn't even drink to myself. - Ballet is generally a tough business.

- Yes. Then the Goskino existed - and when considering the scenario, many members of the expert commission said: "Why pull out dirty underwear?" I and at that moment I was confident that there was nothing brazed writer in the picture, explained that, on the contrary, it was an opportunity for the viewer to dend the identity of Ivan Bunin to the viewer, and reminded that the "dark alleys" appeared thanks to his love for the young poetess Kuznetsova. But still when voting, we lost with a transcendence into one voice. - You are a risky person. Are not afraid to get sick?

- No, this has not yet happened, fortunately. The most important thing is that the head is released. We become again sane besides a wonderful physical sensation. In general, I think, experience and conviction, first of all, are helping to preserve emotional equilibrium, first of all who works next to me, in our right.

- And in childhood and youth you were confident or you needed someone approval: Pope, moms, classmates, girls?

- I was rather shy and modest. Probably, this feature was transferred to me from the Father, who, being one of the most famous documentalists in the Soviet Union, never sucked his glory. A person who considers himself literally a genius, ends on this, so I always have doubts about myself and what I do, and at any stage of working on the picture. I give an opportunity to act as actors and close people, express your opinion, but the duty of the director is to make a decision. So I can doubt how much pleased, but I will not show it on the site. I have another feature or maybe the disease (laughs): I choose the actors for a very long time. I need an ideal hit. At Matilde, the shooting was already shlis, and there was no approved actress on the main role, the casting continued. And only samples of Mikhalin Olshanskaya dispelled all doubts. I always believe in some kind of star, and it never failed me. (Smiles.) For example, at the "walk", Irina Pegov appeared a week before the filming. I invited her as soon as they saw their graduation performance "FRO". In the plot of "Walking" the heroine is high, slim. But I understood - with such an energy, like Pegova, growth is not so important. When I brought Iru to samples, my whole group said that I was crazy, but I still left her, although it was a risk. And in order to take a "walk", not lying, we made Ira shoes on the platform with a height of forty centimeters.

- Yes, she ran back. More precisely, she ran on the platform twenty-one centimeter, but this is also a risk, but stood on forty. And after a few days, none of the group could not even present another actress on the place of Pegova. Therefore, the director is very important - to feel. By the way, I also saw Lenov Lyanov in the graduation performance. And "Cosmos as a premonition" became its first picture. I love to go to student performances. And in general I love the theater. - I did not think about a professional life in the theater then no later. I had several proposals to put something on the stage when I was already engaged in playing cinema, but did not dare. Yes, and no time. Too these are different things - movie and theater. There are, of course, examples, and Andrei Konchalovsky, and Sergey Solovyov put the performances, but more often, on the contrary - theatrical directions take a movie. For me, the theater is a special space where there is no replaceable living communication. That is why all theaters in Moscow are overflowing. I, by the way, was another option - I adored football.

- Yes, you are a sports man than just did not do ...

- Engaged in many, but everyone is pretty briefly, except for football. I often say that the director and football coach is a very similar profession. The match, like the film, lasts an hour and a half, actors on the field - eleven people, and everything really looks like emotional costs. I have been engaged in a film studio since childhood, then in the photo studio. I had a strange movement on the contrary, because I met with one operator, Koli Puchkov, who worked at the studio. Gorky, and he told me that only with a photo I will understand how to create films. Father, knowing that I was going to do documentary cinema, advised to go to the Faculty Camera. That's exactly what I did.

- But you did only from the second time. What was the problem?

"I finished the tenth grade, and I was sixteen years old, because my birthday was August 31, in one day with Matilda Kshesin, by the way." Then I had to pass a lot of exams, four by profession and four general educational, and I only had one "four" when admitted. But the head. - Father never saw your first feature film ...

- I was born when he was thirty-nine years old, I'm a late child. Pope was still a son from the first marriage, but we almost did not communicate with him. Dad died, without surviving several months to seventy five. And I very late came to the artistic cinema. Mom found the shooting of the first painting "Mania Giselle", she was the younger dad for nine years old. But before the release of the picture did not live, died from the second heart attack. My mom everyone loved, and father too. All my student buddies came and told her about her life. And she was very beautiful. But the character, it seems to me, I still went more in dad.

- He was for you an example in the profession? And what features necessary by the director, have you been adopted from him?

"When I graduated from the institute, I already removed one work with him as an operator, so I saw him in work, but I used to be in the shooting. We are in something similar, although I am tough. But he still always sought his own. I also had an understanding of the fact that it is impossible to remove any documentary, nor playing cinema, not loving your hero, even with disadvantages. Father in the paintings always felt that he was very gentle by his characters. And it seems to me that it was mutual.

- You call yourself tough, but it seems to me that you are only in work ...

"I really in ordinary life is soft enough, I can freeze, but quickly leave." At all, do not restrain yourself, as a rule, with people close. For example, my second director Inna Gorlova with me near many years, knows everything about me, I will die without it - and nevertheless on the set, when something does not work, all your anger thumping on her. She, poor, may even cry, although then will be gathered and continues to work. But I really offend it. Maybe sometimes in the case, but not with the degree for sure. And then regret, I try to block the guilt. Honestly, I can forgive everything if it does not concern the filming. But the slightest is a little thing, some inconsistency, I do not forgive the sweeping in the work in any way.

- Your younger son Ilya already know as a movie director, and there is little little about the older ...

- Senior, Andrei, graduated from the financial and economic institute, worked with me in the group on the administrative line, but somehow it did not go. Back in the St. Petersburg TV channel, the transfer was produced and headed the "STO" radio station. He is forty years old, he is a very alive man, many still wants to achieve. Persistence, in my opinion, he lacks a little, by the way, like the younger.

- Why do you think so?

- It's not entirely in perseverance. Ilya in a good sense is also preserved in the profession, I was in his shooting, however, he kicked me out. (Laughs.) So, he believes that it is possible to achieve a maximum by installing and swoing. And I'm trying to do it on the set. But maybe it will come to him. Or maybe this is a more rational approach to the cinema. Two my daughters are also creative girls. Elders, Ana, eight and a half, younger, Masha, four and a half. Anya only two months is engaged in dancing, but it is incredibly plastic. Recently took part in a dance competition, where he won second place without a Bolt. I was incognito in the hall, no one recognized me. It seems to me that she will also be an artist.

- Feel that sons, grown, have become more precisely treated for you, see more often?

- Not. With the eldest, we rarely see, although, extinguishing in St. Petersburg, I always try to meet him. With Ilya, we crossed more often, but by virtue of age, he still wants to prove that in the profession in itself. Although listens to what I say.

- Did you raise the sons and daughters in different ways, maybe because of your different father's age?

- You see, trouble and mine, and my father is that monstrous employment does not allow to pay a lot of attention to children. Only when we began to engage in one profession with dad, began to communicate more, to discuss something. It was also with Ilya, and with Andrey. With girls, it's too early to talk about serious things. I try to walk with them to the theater or in a movie, but it happens infrequently. Sit together at the table - rare luck. As a rule, in the morning I am or not (I'm on trips), or there is a second time at the moment when they are sent to school and kindergarten, and in the evening, when I come back, they are already sleeping. But we try to celebrate the holidays together together, ride somewhere for the new year or in the summer rest - on vacation.

- So you still cut out in your chart for a while for the family?

- Yes, but it was always, and with sons too. Of course, some common trips or affairs are necessary. With Ilya, I'm still playing tennis. By the way, he was engaged in tennis for quite a long time and formally makes it better than me, because he owns technician. But still, I always win him, even recently. It seems to him that he will take me with bare hands, and I cut off and cut down, he does not stand, it will blow stronger - and falls into the grid. (Laughs.) Psychology in pure form.

- You are a gambling player ...

- I am very excanten in any kind of activity, be it billiards, movies or sports. And I am a gambling fan. Ilya, by the way, too. We dispersed with him as fans. When they lived in St. Petersburg, he was sick for Zenit, like me, and with the move to Moscow became the fan of Spartak. We swear on this. By the way, the younger, Masha, we took to tennis. I also practiced this coach, she trains children. They have some kind of exercise to check the abilities: when a child has one hit out of ten, it is considered very capable. And Masha fell four times. The coach stated that it was generally impossible. I do not think it is an exaggeration, she believes that Masha is the future Sharapova. We'll see.

- It was your idea - give her tennis?

- In principle, my idea was mine, but she did not resist. On vacation, they see how I play, and go interest. Tennis is a wonderful game, smart, beautiful, gambling. And I, like a bath, also frees the brains.

- And to maintain physical form, does he help you? And what else do it?

- I tried sometimes sitting on a detox diet. It immediately gives the result in a week. But then still rather quickly gain weight. Not because I eat a lot, but because my life is so arranged - I can breakfast in the morning, and then dine at twelve nights. On the filming with food, everything is crying, intercepting sandwiches constantly. Although before in the shooting process, I always lost kilograms for seven or eight. Now I slightly drop, there is not enough movement. Once, when Julia (Actress Julia Peresilde. - Approx. Auth.) Was on the set, I was forced to practice Anha for almost two weeks. So I lost more than ten kilograms during this time. (Laughs.)

- What did you do with her?

- I learned normally in Vgika, but was not among the first, so to win festivals, conquer awards. By the way, there is a strange tendency - not always excellent students in the university remain the same leaders in their professional life. And love for me was paramount and student times, and today. I now went to Tallinn, showed a picture, and I met my big first love there, her name is Christina. We are friends with her, she is wonderful, and once we have almost a cinema story. There was a strong feeling between us, but she had the groom in West Germany, and she studied at St. Petersburg University. She told me: "You have to decide, I remain here or not." And I replied: "Go," what I regretted him very much later. Then, by the power of youth, I did not realize much, I thought: "Why should I marry?" Although it was very in love.

- Is there, in your opinion, the relationship between the ability of the director to love and the quality of his paintings?

- I think yes. There is also a different potency: both creative, and physical, and it seems to me, in many respects they are interrelated. I'm afraid to stop loving, including therefore. They are told that all my films are different, not like each other. But I do not consider it a disadvantage, even glad, because as soon as you start to repeat something - an end comes, and such examples, unfortunately, a lot.

- To what extent is the household comfort to you: a good apartment, car, clothes? To a certain age, people still seek a pleasant life ...

- I love to be comfortable in everything, including clothing. At the same time, I do not deny something new, some fashionable things if they look harmoniously on me. I am pleased if the room in the hotel is large enough, it affects the work, because you can raise at least a few hours. But I do not understand when the actors, and very young, not famous, declare that only a business class in the plane is needed to shoot in St. Petersburg. I say: "Guys, I myself always fly to Peter with an economy class," it can confirm the studio. Because why when flying one hour business class? The legs do not get tired, still do not have time to eat, and the painting budget is spent five times more money due to tickets. They complain that, they say, they will know them, begin to approach autographs, but it's funny.

- You do not refuse yourself in such joy, as delicious food? Or is there enough willpower for restrictions?

- No, I love to eat tasty. It can be a simple food, for example, potatoes with herring, but it must be a good quality. Bread I try not to eat and the cakes very rarely allow yourself. But in Vienna, for example, I will not refuse to yourself in desserts. (Laughs.) The director must have the taste of life in every sense, and not sit on the water and spinach. Otherwise, water and spinach will come out on the screen.
