Kevin Spacey: "It seems already everything is aware of my unconventional sexual orientation"

Anonim

For decades, Kevin Spaysy was considered one of the most secretive Hollywood actors. He was never married, she tried not to advertise a personal life, and at Oscar ceremony more than once came with her mother. But the scandal with theatrical actor Anthony Repp, who accused a colleague in sexual harassment, forced Spacei to admit to his alternative orientation. The consequences did not make themselves waiting. He was immediately drawn out of all projects, deprived nominations for prestigious premiums and recognized non-graphic person. How Kevin copes with the consequences of his bold act - in a frank interview with the "Atmosphere" magazine.

- Kevin, honestly, you look tired. Let me ask how you transfer everything that fell on you?

- In fact, I'm fine, despite all this. By the way, do you watch a "card house"?

- Yes, of course, I saw all the series. In my opinion, you are just gorgeous there.

- Thank you.

- How do you feel about Frank Anderwood do not like as politics, but adore as a character?

- An excellent question! When we all planned with the creators, I talked a lot about this hero, his stories, about who could affect him. Compared to it with other politicians with a similar reputation. Francis Anderwood is very similar to the thirty-sixth US president Lyndon Johnson (Frank's office even hangs his photo). Johnson was just famous for his merciless and crazy obsession with power, he could easily have a metaphorically twist to someone and did it from the very beginning of his career. But his domestic policy and active struggle with poverty still helped him gain popularity. Everything destroyed foreign policy, because, according to many, it was he who untied the war in Vietnam. So Frank Underwood, in my opinion, a very ambiguous character.

- Was the "Card House" changed your opinion about politics?

- Not particularly. I have always been somewhere near. I saw all the best and worst, as they say. I heard private conversations, participated in various events, besides, many state figures became my close friends. So I perfectly understand the essence of politics. I generally seems to me that she is very similar to the acting game, because, as in the cinema, it is also important to convey its thought to the public. It does not make a policy of a liar, but his work is to convince millions of people in its right.

Producers

The producers of the "card house" took away my parking space and stated that they would twist me from the site, if I still declare it there "

- What are you going to do now, when the producers of the "card house" have crossed out you from the series and reported that in the new season your character will not be?

- How they decided, quietly leave the series. You know, the official letter was sent from the channel, which says that I should not come to the set on the set and, moreover, they cancel my passage and give another parking place (probably it should have wound me stronger than everything). Well, they added at the end that the guard will throw me if I declare declare. In general, everything is very cute. I practically fell as if it read. (Smiles.)

- Just charmingly. That is, the channel completely broke a professional relationship with you?

- Yes, and this applies not only to the "card house". We together worked on the film "Mountains" about the writer Mount Vidal (I produced it and performed a major role), and from him Netflix also refused. Work on it is almost completed, it remains only to add the last strokes. In general, it is very offensive, the film turned out really steep. Now I am actively looking for a company that will help me release it at least on DVD, about the exit of cinemas or on television, even speech now does not go.

- And how do you still comment on a bunch of accusations that ...

- (interrupts.) You are aware that I admitted to my alternative sexual orientation. I live like gay and no longer hide it.

- Previously, you argued that personal life should remain so, and I was kept in a deep secret - no one knew anything about your relationship and does not know anything.

- nothing fundamentally changed, I think so now. But still I told that gay and I have sex with men, now it is a fact. This, naturally, does not mean that I will suddenly begin to put my personal life for everyone to see. In this regard, everything will remain as before. What will change? Perhaps I will write to the gym, I will bring myself to the form, maybe even register on a special dating site and buy a hat with a rainbow ornament. (Laughs.)

- Did you do this because of the story with Anthony Rapp, who accused you of drunken sticks at a party when Rapp was still minor?

- Honestly, I was horrified by his words, and I do not remember the meeting, which happened, according to him, more than thirty years ago. But, if I behaved, as he wrote, I sincerely apologize to him for absolutely unacceptable drunk behavior. I am deeply sorry about the feelings that all these years have been persecuted because of this. It is because of this story I decided to abandon secrecy and told the truth. During this time, I had a relationship with women, and with men, I loved those and others. But now I decided to live as an open gay.

"Many claim that you admitted to cover the story of sticking to a minor, or, if we speak directly, pedophilia."

- I know all this. I even got ready to undergo treatment to learn to control your indecent behavior. We have gathered a whole group with Harvey Weinstein, Jeremy Pivan, Dustine Hoffman, Casey Affleck and his brother Ben. Called "how to rape less." Cool to see around so many familiar persons, isn't it? (Smiles with bitterness.) For our table, the other group was sitting before, but we were kicked out, threatened to rape. Of course, this is all jokes, in fact, I am very serious about all this story, which is why it confessed to his orientation that so many years hid. But terrible, what it all turns out. It's terrible that I will not play anymore in a "card house" that I loved, I was drawn out from the list of nominees for the Emmy Award, and Ridley Scott decided to replace me with another actor in the already removed film. They say, I made untimely "caring out", but ago, no longer won. I hope the scandal will still subsight after a while and my achievements will appreciate. In the meantime, I'm really going to the rehabilitation center, and it is quite serious.

- Let's talk about more positive things. You are not just an actor, but also a producer. Are you more interesting to do this or still play?

- Production is terribly fascinated me. I love to collect all together. I especially liked it when I produced the plays for the London theater The Old Vic. There I was doing everything at all: I picked up the actors, the plays themselves, worked with directors, even costumes and posters did not pass by me. It was amazing! I agreed to work in the theater in 1999, just after the "Beauty of American". I wanted something new, some fresh test of my forces and skills. It seems to me that these ten years of work in the theater made me the best actor than I was before. Probably, they even prepared me for future roles. At the same time, I learned to communicate with the team of various people, my leadership qualities were manifested. In general, I generally worked on myself, read the leadership books, went to training groups to become a professional.

- Why did you refuse it?

- By signing the treaty with the theater, I decided that I would not leave London more than eight weeks. Theater was in the first place. And ten years I did it, and then I was offered a job in a "card house", and I thought that the team was already quite able to cope on their own. Yes, and the project hooked me.

- You had to be extremely difficult to you in life. Are you worried about money now?

- Yes, sometimes I am very worried. I left the usual middle class family: the mother worked as a secretary, and his father was very often sitting without earning. I have seen how hard it is necessary, and I did not want such a lifetime for myself.

- So you think that rich is still better?

- It's like asking a person, how much is his house. (Laugh.)

"Your older brother Randal Fowler told the issue of Daily Mail that your father was Nazi and a pedophile, raped it from a twelve-year-old age, and his mother knew about all this.

"Yes, our father was a cruel man, he consisted in the Nazi party and even wore a mustache a la Hitler. Naturally, a terrible atmosphere reigned in the house. I will not comment on the words of my brother about systematic violence, I will only say that my sister Julia escaped from the house as soon as she was eighteen years old. I myself preferred to close from everything that is happening.

- The acting game has become something like the outstanding?

- Yes, and on stage, and in the movies. I completely gave it to this. In the theater, I especially liked that the same material all the actors are served in their own way. After all, there can be no two identical kings of the lires played by various people. And the cinema is like tennis: each game does not look like another. And you never know where the ball is flying. This is madly fond of me, at the site I forget about everything bad what happened per day. I don't like actors who argue that their work is extremely heavy. For me, she is solid pleasure. I always go to the platform with great joy. And those who once again declare that the role should be painfully prepared, I honestly want to knock on the role.

- How do you prepare for the new role?

- I have one rule: for each role you need to lose something, something to buy and learn something. But the material always changes. And in different ways you tell the story of your character, be it play, series or film. All directors, the actors have unique experience and abilities and also work perfectly perfectly from each other. In general, every time a new game. You have your body, your skills, voice, preparation, but next to you there are other actors and a director who directs you into the rod you need. So you need to be ready for everything. I always ask a bunch of questions: about my hero, style of play or a common tone of the narrative. You can never be too prepared for a new film, but you should always perceive everything with an open heart. I know that there are actors who do everything only for themselves, in their usual style, play what they see. I think it is wrong. It is necessary to play what they see the creators of the film, a series or plays, first of all screenwriter and director. It is better to leave your ego somewhere outside the door, a film is always teamwork, many people involved in its production.

- You often work with young actors. For example, it was in the "baby on the drive", where the Ersen Elgort became your partner. Do you learn them something?

- I really like help them find your own voice and your unique style of play. By the way, I recently spent a master class, where there were about twenty young actors. I looked at them and saw myself, I understood what they were going through, knew almost all their questions. It was pretty funny. I want to always feel novelty in my work, so it is very interesting to play with young actors.

- In the "Baby on the drive" directed by Edgar Wright used many musical tracks. How did he manage to make you move to the music? Did it have been done on the installation?

- oddly enough - no, Edgar wanted us to play for the music, which he chose for a specific scene. Each of us in the ear was a headphone with a melody so that we moved to unison with the song chosen for a specific scene.

Sandra Bullock was in love with Spacey since the filming of the film "Time to kill." Alas, her feeling was not mutual

- Probably, sometimes you really wanted to relax and go to dance?

- Exactly! But I tried to restrain myself and just moved my shoulders when it was completely nursing. This is exactly what I just adore dancing, especially love flamenco, salsa and tango. By the way, if you return to the distant past, this is how we spent time with Sandra Bullock on the filming of the movie "Time to kill" Joel Schumacher - danced every free minute.

- What would your perfect day be? Please name the three components.

- First of all, the bike. I love to ride. Then, of course, dogs. Now I have a black terrier named mini-cooper, I'm just a soul in him. And, of course, the sun. My ideal day in no case should be cloudy. Well, I will not resist, let them still be the fourth component - a good book.

- What is your favorite book?

- I read a lot, so the favorites are constantly changing. At the moment I really like the letters of Clarence Darrow. This is a lawyer, one of the leaders of the American Union of civil liberties, and his mother was a soul. His thoughts turned out to be advanced for that time. By the way, he was a principled opponent of the death penalty - defended more than a hundred killers, from which eventually executed alone. In his letters a lot of stunning quotes, I especially like this: "If you suffer from what you do not understand, be comfortable; You would suffer much more if you understood. " Based on his letters, we even made a play for my theater The Old Vic. I also love the works of Anton Pavlovich Chekhov. By the way, in 2008 I was even invited to the renovated Yalta Theater. Chekhov.

- Do you agree that the soupeless people are never happy?

- Yes. It seems to me that with absolutely happy characters are generally very boring to communicate. People twisted at the temple when I gathered my things and moved to live in London to play in the theater. Like what you still miss? But lying by the pool and spend the fees for films somehow not for me. I am faster my bullet my temple. I wanted some satisfaction.

- So you are still happy now, despite what is happening around?

- Perhaps yes.

- But not satisfied?

- That's right. I am not satisfied because I always have a goal. I will tell you one bike. John Houston filmed a film and somehow collected everyone at the dinner table, who participated in it. There were Truman Hood, Ava Gardner, Frank Sinatra and Tennessee Williams. Houston asked them that most important in life, and heard pretty simple answers: family, wealth and health. Then the same question asked the same question and he said: "Interest. The most important thing for me is to be interested in something. "

- What is most important for you?

- also interest. I'm still very curious about life. It's so beautiful: get up in the morning with bed and not know what to cook you. I always want to try something new. Be a part of something accustomed to the unexplored.
